Because The Coaching Company provides a unique service to the industry, questions inevitably arise about who we are, what we do and how we work in your station. Here are some of the most frequent questions we receive, together with some answers.

Q. I know my station’s strengths and weaknesses. Why do I need you?

A. Good point. You may already have diagnosed what’s not working at your station. Maybe it’s the interaction between your lead anchors, or the overall pacing of your newscasts. But do you know the best way to remedy those issues, other than to tell your anchors to get along better or read faster?

We do, thanks to 20 years of experience addressing similar issues in markets all over the world. Our approach is to resolve the real problem. For example, anchor interaction is almost always a function of writing and producing. Newscast pacing is almost always a function of producing and directing. And to create these resolutions, we coach your entire team, on-air and off-air, as a team. We call it Total Station Coaching.

We know television news inside and out. So we can also provide a fresh, impartial perspective that quickly identifies ways to reinvigorate your set, or innovate new graphic approaches, or even recast your entire news image through a Total Station ReBrand.

Q. Of the many consultants out there, why should I choose The Coaching Company?

A. We are not consultants. We don’t apply cookie cutter solutions or sprout strategies within the confines of a second-floor conference room. Instead, we roll up our sleeves and take our recommendations directly to places where they count – in the studios and newsrooms of some of America’s most influential media organizations, including ABC, CBS, FOX, CNN, Belo, Scripps, Cox and QNI.

What we do works. Managers and on-air talent alike praise our relentlessly positive sessions. They also appreciate our ability to provide feedback that pays off immediately on the air. Just ask Paul Magers at KCBS, Spencer Christian at KGO, Monica Kaufmann at WSB, Antonio Mora at WBBM, Anderson Cooper at CNN or Scott Pelley at CBS News, to drop the names of a few of Our Clients.

Q. Let’s say your company coaches for my station. How does that work?

A. Typically, we visit your station for several days 3-6 times annually. We prepare rigorously before each visit. That means viewing tape and working with you to design every session to meet your needs and priorities.

We follow up each session with customized, written recommendations for everyone we coach. You and your news managers can then use this feedback to ensure your talent is accountable for improving themselves every day. Of course, between visits, we are available at any time to review tape and provide additional follow-up by phone or email.

Q. Who will coach my station?

A. Simply the best, most qualified People in broadcasting. The Coaching Company’s coaches have proven their ability to work with talent at all levels of expertise. Each one of our coaches brings at least 20 years of television experience to your station. We have no B Team.

Q. What if I don’t like your coaching?

A. Then you will be the first client who has ever taken us up on our full, money-back guarantee. In other words, we think you’ll like our work.
